John C. Devereux Division 1, Ancient Order of Hibernians:

Welcome to the John C. Devereux Division 1 of the Ancient Order of Hibernians in Central New York. We are proud to carry forward a legacy of service, faith, and Irish heritage that spans generations in our community.

 

Our Heritage: Named in honor of John C. Devereux, Utica's first elected mayor and a pioneering Irish Catholic leader, our division embodies the spirit of service and community engagement that defined his life. Like our namesake, who established the first Catholic Church in our area and co-founded one of the nation's first savings banks, we strive to make meaningful contributions to our community while preserving and celebrating our Irish heritage.

 

As part of America's oldest and largest Irish Catholic organization, our Mission is dedicated to the Ancient Order of Hibernians' foundational principles of Friendship, Unity, and Christian Charity. Our division works tirelessly to:

 

  • Promote and preserve Irish culture and heritage
  • Support Catholic values and traditions
  • Provide charitable assistance to those in need
  • Foster community engagement and service
  • Build lasting friendships among members

 

Making a Difference Our division actively participates in numerous community initiatives and charitable works. From our annual Joseph T. White Golf Tournament fighting hunger in our community to supporting local food banks and educational programs, we transform our Irish heritage of helping others into meaningful action.
